The financing will support the next stage of SurfAce Cleantech’s industrial development and expand its team from three to five people. Key priorities include optimizing strategic pattern and zone printing, refining mechanical reinforcement criteria, conducting further industrial-scale trials, and advancing compostability certification, with the objective of reaching market readiness in Q1 2027.

“This round allows us to move from successful laboratory and industrial trial results toward an industrialized and certified product. Our focus is now on mastering the technical parameters required to deliver consistent performance under real production conditions.”— Saoirse McConnell, Co-founder & CTO

“We have a very clear use for this capital: accelerating the specific technical and industrial milestones that stand between our current results and commercial deployment. The next months are about execution — industrial optimization, certification and demonstrating that our technology can deliver both performance and economic value at scale.” — Frederic Mauch, Co-founder & CEO

Empowering compostable packaging

Based at EPFL Innovation Park, SurfAce Cleantech Sàrl is a Swiss deep-tech company developing advanced coating technology for compostable flexible packaging. Its technology is designed to reinforce compostable films and enable thinner, stronger and more cost-competitive packaging while maintaining compostability. Developed in collaboration with EPFL, SurfAce Cleantech’s technology combines materials science with industrial printing processes to help accelerate the adoption of high-performance compostable packaging.
