CHF 150,000 for solid-state cooling technology
18.11.2024Ionic Wind Technologies, a spin-off from Empa, has secured the CHF 150,000 investment from Venture Kick to boost the air-cooling efficiency of electronics and data centers. The startup is developing a groundbreaking solid-state cooling technology, which utilizes electrostatic principles to move air, completely replacing conventional fan systems.

The ever-increasing demand for computational power has underscored the critical need for efficient cooling solutions, as traditional fan-based systems are falling short, being inefficient, noisy, and unable to keep up with modern electronic requirements. These limitations result in excessive energy waste and ineffective cooling, particularly where liquid cooling is not an option.
Ionic Wind Technologies tackles this challenge with its innovative solid-state cooling solution that deploys electrostatic principles to move air, eliminating the need for traditional fans. This technology offers a quieter, more energy-efficient, and compact alternative that can revolutionize industries like data centers and electronics. The company’s patented solution also finds applications in air cooling, drying, and purification, aligning with sustainability objectives.
Ionic Wind is initially targeting the electronics and data center air cooling market, valued at USD 19 billion and growing rapidly. The company has built an impressive pipeline of customers, including three paid pilot projects.
In addition to the recently obtained InnoBooster funding of CHF 150’000, Ionic Wind has won the Venture Kick finale, securing another CHF 150’000. The startup will use the funds to accelerate product deployment and scale-up pilots with key customers.
Fueling the development of this solution is a team led by Donato Rubinetti, an engineer focused on practical innovation, alongside co-founder Rico Chandra, a serial entrepreneur with a tech and business background. Liubov Shishaeva adds materials science expertise, while Jan Fehse has over 25 years of experience in Sales and Business Development. They are supported by advisory board members, Lei Xie and Roman H. Schmid, both industry experts.
